  • Congratulations to the research team of Professor Tzong-Han Tsai from the Department of Capital Engineering of the Central University for the first place in the BioCreAtIvE V.5 International Molecular Biology Competition "Gene and Protein Related Object Recognition" project.

  • The ISR research team led by Mr. Tzong-Han Tsai from the Department of Information Engineering of the Central University, in cooperation with the IASL research team of the Institute of Information Technology, participated in the BioCreative V.5 International Molecular Biology Competition held in Barcelona, Spain in 2017. The “identification” project won the first place. The participating teams include top teams from Harbin Institute of Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Frankfurt University and Europe.

Gene and protein-related research results are extremely important for biomedical personnel. In the previous studies on gene and protein name identification, the main purpose was to identify the gene and protein related words in the biomedical abstract. However, among these large names of genes and proteins, only the names that can be linked to open biomedical databases (for example, EntrezGene or UniProt) are really meaningful information for biomedical researchers. Therefore, the main purpose of the "Gene and Protein Related Object Recognition" project is to identify important gene and protein names from the title and abstract of the patent literature. The research team used a new approach (statistical criteria model), which is a template-based machine learning approach that identifies genes at high recall rates (with the highest recall rate and F-Score across all teams). Protein related objects. The conditional random domain model is used to learn and fine tune the boundaries of the distinguished names based on the corpus provided by the competition. Won the first place in the competition.
